Move to a healthier, more active and planet-friendly way to get around

Get on your feet, bike or bus to improve your health, have fun, save money and help shape a more sustainable future for Canberra. Find transport services that work for you and the planet!

Get active to improve your and your family’s health.

Walking, riding or taking public transport to and from work and around town can help you fit more activity and fun into everyone’s day, improving your fitness, mental health and wellbeing.

Save thousands of dollars by swapping car trips for active travel.

Leaving your car at home can save you hundreds of dollars per year on fuel, parking, insurance and servicing costs, and thousands more if you go car-free.

Make an active move to friendlier communities and a cleaner planet.

Less driving means less congestion and pollution, reduces demand for car-making materials and energy, frees up urban space for walking, cycling and more social uses, and makes our streets safer for people.

Make the Move is a non-profit project

created by the Conservation Council ACT Region and the Canberra Environment Centre to help Canberrans make the move from car travel to active and zero-emissions transport.

You can help Canberra make the move to zero-emissions transport

Canberrans, and our NSW neighbours, travel around the city daily for social, recreational, household and employment activities, clocking up a staggering 11 million kilometres a day. Of that, over 9 million kilometres is in private vehicles that are mostly carrying just one person.* All that driving has significant impacts on our health, our climate and the city’s landscape and amenity.

The good news is that there are many other ways for people to move around the city using active travel that can improve physical and mental health, save money, reduce pollution and contribute to a more liveable city for everyone.

Make the Move was funded by an ACT Government Community Zero-Emissions Grant to help Canberrans choose cleaner, greener, healthier transport options!
